The house is a tribute to the land from which it emerges, with stone volumes built from the excavation’s leftover stone, in contrast to which large glazed surfaces allow guests to immerse themselves completely in the surrounding nature, bringing the outside inside and creating an unparalleled experience in continuity with the landscape.
In the municipality of Quartu Sant’Elena, the locality of “Terra Mala” (bad land), known for the presence of hard stones that do not allow for any type of cultivation, hosts the villa designed for a couple from Geneva. Despite its apparent inhospitality, this area enchants visitors with a breathtaking view that embraces the sea and the entire Gulf of Cagliari. Situated on a hilltop, the villa blends harmoniously with the surrounding environment, distinguishing itself with its contemporary architectural language that nonetheless celebrates the natural landscape that hosts it. The house was designed to be a tribute to its very roots, with stone walls recalling the historical vernacular constructions of Sardinia, built with the same stone from the excavation. The large solid volumes not only convey a rustic elegance but also bear witness to a sought-after authenticity and attachment to the land. In contrast, the extensive glazed surfaces allow for complete immersion in the surrounding nature, bringing the outside inside the house and creating an unparalleled experience in continuity with the landscape. The villa offers an oasis of freshness and relaxation thanks to the shadows created by the canopies and water mirrors surrounding the infinity pool. The wooden surfaces and flooring, both inside and outside the house, contribute to creating a welcoming and harmonious atmosphere with nature, inviting guests to fully enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the surroundings. The warmth of the wood is then emphasized inside by a poetic central fireplace, whose iron structure constitutes a true sculpture standing in the double height of the living area, the heart of the house. The extensive canopies and pergolas that act as extensions of the built environment not only provide shelter from the sun, embodying one of the typical elements of Mediterranean constructions, but also host the photovoltaic and solar thermal systems that power the building sustainably. This avant-garde approach perfectly aligns with the intention to preserve the identity and characteristics of the territory as much as possible, ensuring a reduced environmental impact.
